When building your pool, deciding what type of pool filter to install is a very important choice. Your pool filter keeps your water clean and your pool safe for you, your family, and your guests, so it’s a decision that needs to be informed. There are three kinds of pool filters including cartridge, Diatomaceous Earth (DE), and sand. Which you decide depends all on your needs. Here is an overview of the three types of pool filters so you can decide which is right for your pool:
Cartridge Pool Filters
Cartridge swimming pool filters pump the water through a large area filter. These filters are known as cartridges and very good efficient at keeping your water clean for a long period. Cartridge filter systems tend to cost more than other filter systems. However, changing a cartridge is incredibly easy and only has to be done up to every five years.
DE Pool Filters
DE pool filters used very small sieves to filter your water through diatomaceous earth. They are the strongest filters on the market and keep your water the cleanest. However, they require higher levels of water pressure so running them frequently can put a dent in your pocketbook. They are also difficult to clean because they require a backwash and a recharge of DE powder.
Sand Pool Filters
San pool filters are the most standard filters on the market. They pull water through sand which then filters dirt and debris, keeping your water clean. Sand filters are the least expensive of the three options but they need to be cleaned often with a backwash. So they can be a bit difficult to maintain.
Depending on what you want from your filter, depends on which type of filter to get. If you want easy maintenance, get a cartridge swimming pool filter. If you want the cleanest water, get a DE pool filter. If you want something cost effective, get a sand filter.
